Gisela Dulko Climbed Another Mountain

Nothing is impossible, that’s what Gisela Dulko has proved in the last couple of days in Båstad. In Thursday’s quarterfinal she saved two match points against Dominika Cibulkova before winning 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-6(6).

The match lasted three hours and 20 minutes before Gisela Dulko took home a well deserved victory. No doubt the Argentine will sleep well tonight. Hardly anyone believed that Dulko would win the match after losing the first set in an exciting tiebreak. But Dulko proved that she is a brilliant athlete and just kept fighting. She never seemed to be tired and took the second set 6-3.

The third set was probably one of the most exciting deciders so far this year on the WTA Tour. The players followed each other the whole way to a conclusive tiebreak. Exactly as in her previous match against Sorana Cirstea, Gisela Dulko had to save match points before closing it out.

“I just kept believing in myself and played extremely well on the most important points, the Argentine said after the game.

Tomorrow Dulko will be looking for revenge against Martinez Sanchez. The two of them met in the final in Bogotá earlier this year and the Spaniard won in straight sets.
