The doubles specialist Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez made a brilliant effort when she beat her compatriot, Carla Suarez Navarro, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. Martinez Sanchez showed good volley skills that helped her to claim the victory.

Even though Suarez Navarro won the first set it was Martinez Sanchez who started out best. She took an early lead 4-1 before Suarez Navarro found her redemption. After a conversation with her coach Suarez Navarro went out and won five games in a row. She claimed the first set 6-4 and seemed unthreatened.

Suprisingly, although Martinez Sanchez got the best start in the second set, she became very succesful with her serve volley game and forced the match to a third set.

In the last set nothing could stop her, Martinez Sanchez played some outstanding tennis and won six fast games to set the deal.

"It was difficult to play against a good friend but I'm really thrilled to be through," Martinez Sanchez said after the match.
