Wozniacki Set for Another Final

On Saturday Caroline Wozniacki will celebrate her 19th birthday playing in the WTA final of the Collector Swedish Open Women followed by a Britney Spears concert in Copenhagen. It seems like a nice day for the superstar. On Friday she qualified for her fifth final of 2009 by defeating third seed Flavia Pennetta 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

The Dane has really fulfilled her fans expectations this week in Båstad. Today she played some extraordinary tennis against Flavia Pennetta, who is in great shape.

Both players started the match in a high pace and battled out some entertaining points from the baseline. Even though the weather was pretty rough, the standard of the match was very high.

Wozniacki finished the first set in a nice way and closed it at 6-3. The Dane played with high pressure and forced Pennetta to run a lot in the first. But in the second Pennetta also raised her standard and the players took turns to control the duels.

The world number 9 had a short-term downturn towards the end of the set and Pennetta could take two quick games to force the match into a deciding set.

The Dane found her redemption right from the beginning in the third and even though Pennetta also played well it was Wozniacki who won most of the points. After two hours Wozniacki claimed her place in the final via 6-2 in the deciding set.

“I played really well throughout the whole match and tried to keep the pressure on. Otherwise you have to run a lot when you meet a player like Pennetta,” Wozniacki explained.

After the tournament the Dane will receive a well deserved holiday. Her next tournament is in Los Angeles three weeks from now, so she will have time to rest a little bit before preparing for the US hard court season.

“The organisation has worked extremely well this week and I’ll be back for sure next year,” she praised during the press conference.
