
Swedish wild card jackpot
Swedish players takes all remaining wild cards for the WTA-event in Båstad. Anna Brazhnikova and Hilda Melander joins Ellen Allgurin as wild card players in Collector Swedish Open. Together with Sofia Arvidsson and Johanna Larsson there will be at least five Swedish players in the main draw. Seven Swedish players have the chance in the qualifying.
Anna Brazhnikova makes her third consecutive start in the tournament. She is the best ranked Swedish player behind Sofia Arvidsson and Johanna Larsson at spot 579 on the WTA-ranking.
Hilda Melander is making her WTA-debut. She has never even qualified for a tournament in this division but has earned her main draw chance by doing good results in ITF-tournaments this year.
In the qualifying tournament there will be seven Swedish wild cards trying to reach the main draw.
“We are happy to be able to offer wild cards to ambitious young Swedish players who has a commitment for tennis. This is a great opportunity to give Swedish tennis a boost and the wild cards are given in dialogue with the Fed Cup captain Maria Strandlund Tomsvik,” says Nina Wennerstrom, tournament director.
